Heritage research informs heritage policies developed and implemented by the Ministry of Culture and all heritage institutions. It renews and improves the action of professionals for a better management of the patrimony, in particular in the exercise of the sovereign, legislative and regulatory prerogatives of the State and scientific and technical control.
At the beginning of this century, research in the field of heritage is experiencing a strong expansion which has made it possible to constitute the heritage as an object of research in its own right and the «heritage sciences» in a real field of research, if not in an academic discipline. This development is the result of a strong expectation of society and heritage professionals for a better management of heritage objects (material and intangible) and works to be transmitted to future generations.
